Announcement – Cole & Srexx Publication Policy Change

May 25, 2021 by Rob 5 Comments

Good day to you.
Effective today–25 May 2021–the series Cole & Srexx is now published wide. It will disappear from Kindle Unlimited (KU) within 24 – 48 hours. To clarify, the series is not leaving Amazon, just their eBook subscription program Kindle Unlimited (KU). The Terms of Service for KU require that any eBooks enrolled in the program be exclusive to Amazon, and that exclusivity is no longer compatible with our business model.
By publishing wide, Cole & Srexx will now be available across many platforms throughout most of the world, allowing for the creation of a much greater readership than continued enrollment in KU would permit and providing a much more stable and secure income from this series.
Please note: this policy change does not include the series, Histories of Drakmoor. Histories of Drakmoor will remain in KU at least into the fourth quarter (Q4) of the year (2021).
Thank you.

      Hi, David,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. I regret that I now consider the Cole & Srexx series to be finished. Paraphrasing what I wrote in the Author’s Note for “Fires,” something in the series broke for me during or after Haven Ascendant, and writing it is nothing short of slow torture now. I don’t like that, and if I knew how to fix that, I would in a heartbeat. I love the series, too. I still remember the “That would make a good story” moment that started Cole & Srexx.

Best wishes to you and yours!

      Regards,
      Rob

        Sir,

I read at the end of one story about an upcoming novel called Solar Eclipsed. Did this one do a name change?

          Hi, Stanley,

Thanks for taking the time to leave your comment.

You’re not wrong. But… odds highly favor the only place you would’ve seen that was in an early version of my books’ back matter, specifically my version of the “Other Stories by Robert M. Kerns” page. There’s a small chance you might have seen it (and its cover) on the Books page at Knightsfall Press (https://knightsfall.press/books), but it hasn’t existed there for several months now.

The short answer to your question is, “No, it did not do a name change.”

          So, what happened to it?

“Solar Eclipsed” was the title of what would’ve been Book 5 in the Cole & Srexx series. In choosing to reply to this specific comment thread, I hope you are already aware that–at this moment in time–I consider the Cole & Srexx series to be dead and no longer under development. As I wrote in the Author’s Note for “The Fires of Aurelius,” the series stopped being fun for me somewhen during the production or publishing of “Haven Ascendant,” and I forced myself to write “Fires” in an effort to wrap-up the major points of the series for its readers.

Writing “Fires” was a soul-destroying slog that I have no wish to repeat. I am only just now getting back to the level of creativity, desire to write, and love of the process that I had prior to forcing myself to create that story.

Which means that I shelved my ideas and notes for “Solar Eclipsed” for the foreseeable future.

The day may come when the only writing I want to do involves fixing Cole & Srexx to make the series fun and enjoyable to me again, which is how I define a ‘viable project.’ Is such a day on the horizon or even in the semi-near future? Well… that ultimately depends on the scale you use to define ‘horizon’ or ‘semi-near future,’ but probably not. Given my current mindset about the series and the stack of projects that make me excited about writing, Cole & Srexx has a frighteningly long wait before its time even has the chance of coming around again.
