I’ve never been the type to make resolutions for the new year. I much prefer measurable, achievable goals. One of my favorite series, the Fourth Fleet Irregulars by S. J. MacDonald, acquainted me with concept of micro-steps. The whole idea is setting a series of easily achievable goals that serve to advance you toward achieving a major goal.
I’m not sure if I ever wrote about it here, but a while back, I set the goal of completing the revisions to my manuscript by the end of December. Well, life is what happens while we’re busy making plans, and I allowed the month of December to pass by without any significant progress on that goal.
As you’ll be able to see from my Writing Log, though, I’ve made a good start on achieving my new goal…completing revisions by the end of January. Ideally, I’d like to have the revisions complete by January 16th, but I’m not sure that’s 100% feasible.
Don’t get me wrong; I’m going to work as though the 16th is very feasible, but at the same time, I’ll be pleasantly surprised if I achieve that. 🙂
By the way, if you’re in the market for some good science fiction that’s well written and all-around, good fun, you can’t go wrong with the Fourth Fleet Irregulars. I’ve read (and re-read) those books, and I always enjoy them.
